SOUTH SHORE CULTURAL CENTER - PERFORMANCES
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2017
Nature Sanctuary - 6:30 PM
Ballroom - 7:30 PM
Elevate Chicago Dance is a citywide festival with public performances and studio showings at nine creative spaces around the city, featuring close to forty Chicago choreographers and dance companies.
In the festival's first evening performance, Chicago dancemakers reclaim the beautiful South Shore Cultural Center ballroom for dance inspired by Chicago house, historic tap, and the golden age of disco. Come experience a program offering the unprecedented mix of Groundhog, Red Clay Dance, Same Planet Performance Project, and a special outdoor project by Kristina Isabelle Dance.
Reservations are free.
Advanced reservations are encouraged, but not required. If there are more patrons than available seats, we will give preference to those who have made advanced reservations.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Red Clay Dance
unites performance with a social consciousness that spills from the stage to the community. They create Afro-contemporary dance by fusing traditional West African movement with contemporary and Chicago House dance forms.
is widely recognized as one of the leading Tap Dancers of his generation.
takes us into the Nature Sanctuary behind the South Shore Cultural Center for a new site-specific performance at dusk, illuminating this unique environment with movement, light and sound. Performance is at 6:30pm. Limited capacity; reservations required.
Same Planet Performance Project
draws from 70s disco as a source of inspiration for their work Honey, playing within a queer space open to excess, risk, freedom, and fantasy.
