Save the Date: The next CDF/Silverspace Salon will be on Monday, March 22 with Mark Jeffrey and Judd Morrissey, discussing the build process for The Precession Hyde Park Art Center , which will premiere at the in December, 2010. Allison Peters Quinn, Director of Exhibitions at HPAC, joins the conversation to offer insight on curation and performance from the museum's perspective.

The Precession is an adaptive New Media performance in which community participation, local night sky data, and real-time intrusion of material gleaned from social networks shape the experience on any given night at any given venue. The work explores New Deal-era iconography through contemporary technology, constructing panoramic digital images and performance-based sequences anchored in themes of labor, futurity, and the individual and collective body. The Precession's primary inspiration is a 1935 sculpture depicting two winged workmen seated within a celestial map at the Hoover Dam. Other sources considered include the 1930's theatrical movement, the Living Newspapers, and the choreography of Busby Berkeley.
