Join us as we launch the 2008-09 series with an intimate and provocative artist talk with renowned choreographer David Dorfman, as he discusses the process of creating politically engaged work.

Dorfman will lead a discussion about the process of creating his two most recent socially and politically charged evening-length works (which will have just appeared over the weekend on the program at The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago.) Disavowal, a world premiere inspired by abolitionist and (in)famous "race traitor" John Brown, is a critical examination of white supremacy, racism and alienation. underground is a compelling and provocative exploration of the principles of political activism that asks: When does activism become terrorism? Are killing and destruction ever justified? Join the conversation with David and find out how he approached making dances inspired by such intense and timely topics.
