Emma Draves

Emma Draves is a native of Marion, IN. Since settling in Chicago, she has worked with a variety of companies and choreographers. Emma has performed with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Orchestra for the grand opening of Millenium Park's Pritzker Pavilion, in Lookingglass Theatre's production of Sita Ram, and in Victory Gardens' production of The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity. Emma dances for Mordine and Company and has recently been named Assistant Artistic Director. She also performs for Natya Dance Theatre, having learned the South Indian art of Bharata Natyam from teacher Hema Rajagopalan.

Emma completeed a choreographic Residency with Links Hall's LinkUp program resulting with the sole Duel With An Orchid. Emma is looking forward to new challenges in the creation of bilingual choreography influenced by her background in modern and Bharata Natyam techniques.

For her Greenhouse Project, Emma developed The Union of Duality, an investigation into ideas of the Temporal and Eternal, inspired by the Shiva/Shakti union and using movement vocabulary of Modern and Bharata Natyam.

Draves was mentored by Hema Rajagopalan, Artistic Director of Natya Dance Theatre.
